The Problem: Why Every Professional Needs a Ready Resume
In today's fast-changing job market, no one knows when they might need to start job hunting again. Layoffs can happen overnight (I'll share my own story about that one day), and having an up-to-date resume is essential. Every professional should be prepared for new opportunities at any time.
Frustrations with Existing Resume Builders
When it comes to building a resume, choosing the right tool is crucial. A few years ago, I used resume.io
, but its auto-save feature drove me crazy. If I accidentally deleted a text block, there was no way to recover it. At that time, they didn't offer resume adaptation features, which are critical for tailoring applications. Plus, they generated a new PDF on every keypress, which, as an engineer, seemed inefficient and strange to me.
The Importance of Resume Adaptation
If you want to land a job, your resume must be tailored for the specific position. Generic resumes won't pass through filters, and even if they do, they'll likely be ranked too low for hiring managers to notice. With thousands of applications per job, standing out is no longer optional - it's a necessity.
But what if everyone started adapting their resumes? Would that make job hunting even harder? Not necessarily. Adaptation doesn't mean lying. It means presenting your experience in the most relevant way for the role. If you have the skills and experience for the job, you deserve to be chosen. However, if you're a plumber applying for a machine learning engineer position, you'd have to fabricate your qualifications, which I strongly oppose.
The Birth of GetBetter.Work
I built GetBetter.Work based on my own frustrations with existing resume tools. At first, I created it purely for personal use - helping me quickly adapt my resume and apply for jobs. Over the course of a year, it became an essential tool for me, making my job applications more efficient and ultimately helping me land the job I wanted.
Later, I shared it with friends and colleagues. They loved the concept but found plenty of UI/UX issues (and even a few bugs). Their feedback pushed me to improve the platform, refining it further until I was confident enough to release it to the public.
After navigating the ups and downs of marketing, I finally gained my first paid users - job seekers using the platform to optimize their resumes and pass through ATS filters. That's when I knew I had built something truly valuable.
Try It for Yourself
If you're looking for a resume builder that actually helps you get noticed, GetBetter.Work has already helped many job seekers land interviews. Come and try it for yourself: GetBetter.Work
